A lot of the candidates for the Democrats’ 2020 presidential nomination have proposals to combat climate change, but Bernie Sanders thinks his $16.3 trillion plan stands out from the crowd.
Surrounded by ruins in Paradise, California, where last year the deadliest wildfire in California history killed 86 people and prompted an exodus from the once-idyllic community, the independent senator from Vermont told Mother Jones’ Jamilah King that the steps he’s outlined go further than those of his counterparts. The interview was conducted in conjunction with the Weather Channel on the release of Sanders’ proposal.
“Our plan recognizes that if we do not act in a very bold way, which I have to confess is expensive, the results will be catastrophic,” Sanders says.
He says the plan was crafted with input from scientists, environmentalists, and people who have been impacted by climate change.
