This is the wild tale of Miles Guo, who joined Bannon to blanket the web with far-right propaganda, and in the process build and monetize a vast misinformation machine.
In Mother Jones reporter Dan Friedman’s gripping new portrait, Guo emerges as a social media influencer, allying himself with powerful figures in Trump’s inner circle like Rudy Guliani and Michael Flynn to build a media operation that includes the Chinese-language video platform GTV, featuring Guo’s regular broadcasts, along with dubbed versions of Bannon’s incendiary podcast, “War Room”. There’s also a website, GNews, that runs articles summarizing Guo’s pronouncements. Guo also developed an early version of Gettr, the right-wing social media site now run by former Trump aide Jason Miller.
Sprawling and ill-defined, Guo’s operation has become a major source of disinformation, and his network includes an expanding base of followers that do Guo’s bidding, online and off.
