So WTF Just Happened With Health Care and the Shutdown?

Hi it's me, Chris Vazquez! I'm working on an ongoing series with Mother Jones about spiraling health costs and the government shutdown. You can check out the first two videos in the feed you're watching this one. And there's some news on this I need to bring to you right away: A group of Senate Democrats, along with one independent senator, broke with their party Sunday in voting to clear a procedural hurdle on a bill to reopen the government. Democrats had previously refused to advance any funding legislation that didn’t extend tax credits for Americans who get health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The Senate still needs to actually vote on the funding bill. If it passes, it’ll go to the House of Representatives, where most Democratic lawmakers have expressed opposition to the legislation. However, POLITICO reports that Republicans likely have enough votes to pass the bill. I'll be tracking it as it unfolds, while also filling you in on just how much people are likely to pay if nothing changes and the Obamacare tax credits expire. Stay tuned.
