Syria still lacks many basic resources and poverty is high. David Miliband, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee says Syria is a “prototype example” of how conflict within a country can exacerbate poverty and worsen other issues like child malnutrition. Miliband says policy around Syrian refugees must “focus on the people” and “respect the choices Syrians themselves are making.”
