Trump's attacks on academia are especially egregious, as these institutions have historically served as important centers of dissent and protest. If free speech can be effectively suppressed in these critical intellectual spaces, it becomes much easier to silence the broader public, say experts. “Universities need to band together,” says Jason Stanley. The Washington Post’s Karen Attiah warns that Trump’s attacks won’t end with college campuses. “People’s lives are at stake…All of it can be gone in an instant.”
