Sen. Alex Padilla, speaking shortly after he was removed from a Homeland Security news conference in Los Angeles, said he was handcuffed by law enforcement officers, but not arrested or detained. He also encouraged protesters to keep Saturday's upcoming rallies peaceful.
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security said law enforcement "acted appropriately."
