Democratic strategist Waleed Shahid says that the racist comments obscure and distract from Mamdani's platform. "We are missing an opportunity to engage with the substance of why the plurality of voters chose Zohran Mamdani, which is a conversation about rent, a conversation about groceries, a conversation about public transit in this city," Shahid says.
