While Trump “doesn’t have the ability to overturn the 1964 Civil Rights Act or The Voting Rights Act or The Fair Housing Act,” he’s instead upended civil rights enforcement mechanisms. Which she says, “sends the message that if you discriminate, there’s no one in the federal government that’s going to enforce the law.” The administration is “creating a narrative that allows [for] a stripping of Black people’s rights,” says Hannah-Jones.
