More importantly, says Ana Marie Cox of The New Republic, Trump is losing more than just his base—the scandal is reminding all Americans of “the moral stakes.” Even his photo-op at the Federal Reserve building—another attempted distraction from the scandal engulfing his administration—backfired big time as Fed Chair Jerome Powell fact-checked Trump’s false claims in real time. As former Congressman Joe Walsh puts it, Powell showed “every damn American how you deal with a bully.”
