Dr. Adam Hamawy (D-NJ) built a national profile through his work in medicine. He was an Army combat surgeon in Iraq and he helped save the life of Sen. Tammy Duckworth after she was severely wounded in a helicopter attack in 2004. More recently, he volunteered in Gaza, providing medical care during the ongoing humanitarian crisis there.
