Following decades of advocacy, Juneteenth was marked as a federal holiday in 2021. But, there’s still pushback from lawmakers, including President Trump who believe it should be derecognized. Eugene and Symone discuss the deeper meaning behind the holiday, and why its history matters. "Juneteenth is a reminder of how much governments lie,” says Eugene. And as Symone puts it, the holiday is “the enforcement of freedom”.
