He was subpoenaed to testify by Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, who has had a years-long feud with Fauci, which the doctor addressed in his opening statement. During the hearing, Republicans failed to mention President Trump’s role in the response to the pandemic, including refusing to prepare Americans for the horrors of Covid because he didn’t want to hurt the economy.
