Across the nation, 6.1 million convicited felons cannot vote, according to The Sentencing Project (). 30 years ago, Mr. Hernández was accused of a crime. Even after paying his dues and getting his criminal record clean, his vote wasn't reestablished. “My life has been hell since they took away my civil rights," Hernández says. Now he has the chance to recover his vote by asking for clemency before the Florida Governor.
