Speaking to TODAY’s Matt Lauer, Rubio shrugs off criticism from opponents such as Donald Trump and Jeb Bush and defends his attendance record in the Senate. On the Oregon community college shooting Rubio says that mental illness and the roots of violent behavior should be the focus rather than gun control legislation. “Guns are what they’re using to commit the violence,” Rubio says. “The laws that many are proposing would have done nothing to prevent these attacks.”
