Now a 1,000-page book called the Ireichō collects those names for the first time, allowing visitors to honor their loved ones and ensuring that dark chapter of history will never be forgotten. The experience of seeing the book at the Japanese American National Museum is a personal one for NBC News’ Emilie Ikeda: her own family members were held in the camps. She shares their stories and stamps their names in the book to honor their painful experiences.
