11:58Now PlayingI have the enormous privilege of getting to travel all across these United States meeting with people and teaching them about the seemingly bizarre things going on in the world today. Invariably at almost every event in almost every city, I get asked, "What can we do?" with all the emphasis either on the "we" or on the "do." I've taken to replying with a bit of a reversal: "I don't know; what can you do?" That's the thing. You have to figure out what you can do, what you have to offer, what you're good at. Maybe it's something as complicated as learning this stuff and speaking up about it, technical as building some new infrastructure or pursuing a legal strategy, or as simple as getting together with people and talking about the issues so people don't feel so alone or doing a bake sale as a fundraiser to support a political campaign for someone who is ready and willing to take a stand. Everybody has something to offer, and you have to ask yourself what you can do because despite all my expertise, I don't know what you can do.
