At least 81 cruise missiles were fired at eight regions by midmorning, only around half of which were shot down, according to Ukraine’s defense ministry.
Explosions were reported in Lviv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr in Ukraine’s west, Dnipro and Kremenchuk in central Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia in the south and Kharkiv in the east, many hitting at rush hour.
In Kyiv, distressing images caught blood-soaked citizens walking through still-blazing streets in the historic old town that is home to several government offices — with one giant crater just feet from a playground.
