The 70-year-old woman accidentally breathed in the 9mm long screw after receiving the item as a dental implant 11 months ago.
Shortly after the procedure, it's been reported that she had suffered from numerous respiratory infections without understanding the reason behind them.
Eventually, doctors at the Hospital Vithas Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain, located the foreign body in her lungs after performing a chest x-ray, with Antonio Fernández Rodríguez performing a bronchoscopy to remove the item.
It's believed her initial dental treatment involved two replacement bone implants, with healing caps and a final implant fitted two months afterwards.
