The most shocking part, however, was the defense’s closing argument. Pollina’s attorney told jurors: “We don’t convict people because they’re bitches.”
“Covering trials like this has given me a newfound respect for anyone who sits on a jury,” Kevin Sheehan, veteran reporter for The Post, revealed. “It really does torture them, it must, because it tortured me.” The boy’s father, ex-NYPD cop Michael Valva, who fatally hosed the child off in below-freezing temperatures, was also convicted of murder in a separate trial.
