The Cargolux Airlines Boeing 747 plane flew for 52 minutes, dumping fuel over Luxembourg and Belgium so it could get under its maximum landing weight before attempting to touchdown, according to travel news outlet One Mile at a Time.
The hair-raising ordeal continued on the ground when the plane’s right body landing gear snapped and detached from the jet as it tried to touch back down at Luxembourg Airport, according to video footage and a statement from Cargolux.
The Luxembourgian flag carrier cargo airline said the plane “came to a controlled stop and was attended to by the emergency services.”
No one was injured and the mishap is under investigation, officials said.
