Kathy Hochul also called for a “federal solution,” in a dramatic shift on how local politicians are responding to the situation.
Eight months ago, busloads of migrants began showing up at Port Authority from Texas. As of May 2012, upwards of 61,000 new people have entered the city’s system, overwhelming shelters and forcing NYC to rent out entire hotels in midtown. Local leaders are publicly asking Congress and the White house for help – and seeking to remove red tape that restricts workers.
