0:44Now PlayingA passenger on a packed flight in India was arrested after he tried to open an emergency door midair to jump, police said.
Officials said Biswajit Debnath, 41, fiercely attempted to force open the emergency doors of an aircraft during a domestic flight from Guwahati to Agartala on Thursday.
Chaos ensued after Debnath shot up out of his seat and headed for the doors, prompting one of the 180 passengers on board to rush after him in a desperate bid to stop him.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the passenger manhandle an emergency door as the aircraft neared its destination.
Crew members quickly intervened, but Debnath initially resisted being restrained, officials told Press Trust of India.
In an effort to restrain him, fellow passengers dragged him toward an empty seat, where he remained until the plane landed safely.
Flight 6E-457 on Indian budget airline IndiGo landed safely in Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
