as posted by the channelAt least two people were dead and dozens injured after poor visibility led to “many” car pileups on Interstate 55 near Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on Monday, October 23, local news reported.
Multiple roads were closed in the area as troopers responded to the scene, the Louisiana State Police said. There were heavy fog conditions on the roads, combined with smoke from nearby marsh fires, according to police.
“Hundreds of vehicles” were involved in at least 25 crashes, local news said.
This footage by Lance Scott shows one car pileup on I-55. Scott told Storyful that people remained stuck on the highway bridge shortly after noon.
