0:31Now PlayingRoad safety concerns usually don’t run to flying deer, but that was a hazard encountered by one startled cyclist recently, as an antlered obstacle jumped right over his bike.
The astonishing footage was recorded by Edwin Gonzalez Montoya on October 20, and shows the deer leaping from the left as he was taking part in a peloton ride in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
Gonzalez Montoya told Storyful that the incident happened about five minutes into a “social ride” on October 20, and came so fast that he didn’t have time to feel scared.
“I was in the typical aerodynamic position so the only thing I did since I was moving forward was to lean back, and the deer hit my arms,” he said. “I think it could have hit me on the head but because I rapidly moved back it only hit my arms.”
Gonzalez Montoya said he couldn’t believe that he was actually fine and kept moving his arms to make sure they were OK, afraid that the adrenaline might have concealed a broken limb.
