After the collapse of a week-long ceasefire on Dec. 1, Israel began a ground offensive in southern Gaza last week and has since pushed from the east into the heart of the city of Khan Younis, with warplanes attacking an area to the west.
Israel vowed to annihilate the Islamist group Hamas that rules Gaza after its gunmen stormed Israeli communities on October 7, killing 1,200 and abducting some 240 into the coastal territory.
Gaza health ministry says that over 18,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 49,645 wounded in the Israeli offensive.
