0:36Now PlayingNew Yorkers awoke Monday morning to a powerful storm that brought commuter chaos, with more than 55,000 already without power across the Empire State.
The gusty storm had already dumped between two and four inches of rain on the Big Apple by 8:45 a.m., as winds as powerful as 55 mph whipped the region, Fox Weather meteorologist Marissa Laurenbacher told The Post.
“My message is don’t become complacent and think that you can weather every single storm,” Gov. Kathy Hochul told residents in an interview on NY1.
“We’re giving these warnings, we’re only doing it because life could be a danger.”
“We’ve been warning people all weekend long that this could be a very treacherous commute and it is,” she added.
High wind advisories have also been issued for Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, and a “high wind watch” is in effect for Brooklyn and Queens.
High wind warnings are also in effect on Long Island and in coastal New England, where wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph.
“You know, in terms of this weather storm, there are still multiple advisories, watches and warnings in effect,” said Zach Iscol, commissioner of New York City Emergency Management.
