Two subway trains collided on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon, causing one to derail and leaving several people hurt, according to officials and a report.

A commuter train rear-ended a work train near the 96th Street Station around 3 p.m., MTA sources told NBC New York.

At least eight people suffered minor injuries after the work train struck a northbound 1 train, according to police and sources.

The passenger train was evacuated.

Service for 1, 2 and 3 trains has been shut down for most of Manhattan as officials investigate the incident, the MTA said.
