Smoke was seen rising from northern Israel after an Israeli airstrike on the area of Ayta ash Shab in southern Lebanon on Monday (January 8).

Israeli Defence Forces said fighter jets struck a series of Hezbollah targets.

An anti-tank missile launched from Lebanon struck the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, causing damage and no injuries, local authorities said.

Tensions on the Israeli-Lebanon border have simmered since Hamas' deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri was killed by a drone in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of Hamas' ally Hezbollah, in an attack widely attributed to Israel.
