1:05Now PlayingA man who jumped into a storm-swollen California waterway to rescue his dog on February 5 had to be hoisted to safety by helicopter, footage released by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) shows.
Video from LAFD firefighter Daniel Castillo shows the man struggling in the fast-moving Pacoima Wash as a rescuer is lowered down from a hovering helicopter.
The LAFD said the man’s dog had managed to swim to safety, adding that it was taken to a local shelter to be treated for minor injuries while its owner was being treated at a hospital.
The rescue came as record rainfall led to flooding and mudslides across southwest California.
