YouTube Description
as posted by the channelMitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history who maintained his power in the face of dramatic convulsions in the Republican Party for almost two decades, will step down from that position in November — and suggested he may retire at the end of his term in 2026 as it is “time for the next generation of American leadership.”
“I turned 82 last week, and the end of my contributions are closer than I prefer,” the Kentucky Republican said in a Senate floor speech Wednesday afternoon. “I’m filled with heartfelt gratitude and humility for the opportunity.”
“When I got here, I was just happy if anybody remembered my name,” he added, apparently referencing a flub by Ronald Reagan during a 1984 visit to Kentucky when the president called him “Mitch O’Donnell.”
