“It’s in the hands of Hamas right now,” Biden, 81, told reporters before boarding Air Force One in Maryland. “We will know in a couple of days what’s gonna happen.”
The president described the current cease-fire deal — brokered by US, Qatari and Egyptian negotiators — as a “ration offer,” noting that Israel has been cooperating with mediators.
The deal calls for a six-week pause in hostilities in Gaza and the release of 40 hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. It would also pave the way for more aid to be delivered to Gaza refugees.
