Local reports, citing the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), described people witnessing what appeared to be a “funnel-shaped cloud” near the waters of the Tagus River around 2 pm on Thursday.
“From the looks of it, it was a phenomenon very similar to a tornado. It will most likely be a tornado,” meteorologist Alessandro Marraccini told Lusa news agency.
Footage here, captured by X user Role de Rua, shows the funnel cloud emerging behind the Vasco da Gama Bridge, in south Lisbon, Portugal.
