2:08Now PlayingRiot police were spotted gathering at Columbia University as the school announced early Wednesday that it is giving anti-Israel students another 48 hours after they refused to meet a midnight deadline to leave.
The administration announced early Wednesday that it will continue dialogue for “the next 48 hours” following “important progress with representatives of the student encampment.”
University President Minouche Shafik initially set a midnight deadline on Wednesday for them to clear out before the school would “consider alternative options” to remove the tent city in a letter on Tuesday.
The deadline came just after Shafik canceled in-person classes over the serious safety issues it brought those on the Manhattan campus.
