1:03Now PlayingIsraeli Prime Minister said on Monday (May 20) that the decision of the International Criminal Court's prosecutor to seek arrest warrants against him and his defense minister was a "moral outrage of historic proportions."
In a video statement spoken in English, Netanyahu continued to describe the decision to put himself and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant together with Hamas leaders against whom warrants were also asked, to be "Creating a moral equivalence after September 11th between President Bush and Osama Bin Laden, or during World War II between FDR (Franklin Delano Roosevelt,) and Hitler."
Netanyahu blamed Khan for "Callously pouring gasoline on the fires of antisemitism that are raging across the world."
Israel launched a war against the Hamas Islamist movement Hamas that rules the Gaza Strip after Palestinian militants rampaged Israeli communities on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostage.
Israeli attacks have killed over 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the Gaza Strip's health authorities.
A panel of pre-trial judges will determine whether the evidence supports the issuing of arrest warrants, but the ICC has no means to enforce such warrants and its investigation into the Gaza war has been opposed by the United States and Israel.
