0:34Now PlayingAn Irish shipping service has said it is no longer accepting deliveries from Cherbourg, France, after it said nine loads delivered in May were damaged by stowaways, according to a report by RTE.
Recently released security footage from May 23 shows six people emerging from a container at a warehouse owned by Hyland Shipping, which is based in the Finglas area of Dublin.
“They hide in the freight in the trailer, they tear stuff apart and climb down into boxes in order to hide themselves from a cursory glance of a security officer down in the port,” managing director Tino Hyland told BBC Northern Ireland.
He told the broadcaster that hiding in freight containers was “massively dangerous” for stowaways and “horrible for them,” while adding it is difficult for small companies to absorb costs caused by the damage.
