3:31Now PlayingA surge of lava from the Sundhnukur volcanic eruption that began on May 29 could be seen engulfing a road outside the town of Grindavik on Saturday, June 8.
Footage recorded by Marco Di Marco shows chunks of crumbling, steaming lava burying part of Grindavikurvegur roadway, which remained closed on June 11 as per travel information.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office said what while the speed of the flow had decreased, the lava would continue to inch forward.
They added that another surge in the coming days could not be ruled out.
A road allowing access to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa nearby was to reopen on June 11, local broadcaster RUV reported.
