13:29Now PlayingTwo University of Rhode Island students were charged with allegedly assaulting Narragansett police officers who were breaking up a house party in the early hours of September 7.
Narragansett Police Department released bodycam footage of the incident, which shows officers walking up a house packed with students and asking for proof of ID.
Moments later, a student can be heard shouting at the police officers before shoving one of them, ultimately leading to an altercation with law enforcement.
21-year-old Cody Calkins, who can be seen knocked to the ground in the video, and 20-year-old Jake Dignam, were taken into custody and have each been charged with simple assault, obstructing an officer in the line of duty, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
University of Rhode Island issued a statement to the police, saying that they were “aware of several incidents that occurred in Narragansett over the past weekend” and did not condone the reported behavior.
“Any involvement by URI students will be reviewed consistent with the University’s Community Standards and Student Conduct System and may result in sanctions, including suspension or dismissal, in addition to any local actions taken”, they said.
