0:31Now PlayingSen. JD Vance initially thought Donald Trump was dead after the shocking assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
"The initial reaction is, I actually thought they had killed him because when you first see the video, he grabs his ear and he goes down, and I'm like, 'Oh my god, they just killed him,'" Vance told Joe Rogan.
"I was so pissed," he added, noting how he thought he should "grab my kids up, throw them in the car, go home and load all my guns, and basically stand like a sentry at our front door."
Vance also explained that at one point, Trump talked about having him participate in that Butler rally, before dropping the idea.
"It is shocking that he is alive. I think it's a genuine miracle. The whole thing is very fishy to me and I hope we win and then get to the bottom of it because somebody clearly screwed up," he later added.
