Syrians came out to celebrate what was being dubbed “Victory Friday” on December 13, with video here showing the scene in Hama.

In a Telegram post, insurgent leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, encouraged Syrians to gather in the streets to express their joy at victory.

Footage posted by Al-Askare shows a huge crowd in Assi Square in Hama, with many waving Syrian flags.

Other footage posted by Al-Askare shows crowds celebrating in Damascus.

In the early days of popular revolt against the Assad regime, Friday prayers were often a focal point for protests.
