Marc Fogel arrived at the White House after being freed from a 14-year jail sentence in Russian prison, of which he had served almost 3 years. The former teacher was arrested on possession of marijuana upon entering Russia for vacation in 2021.

Fogel made a point of calling Trump a ‘hero’ in gratitude to the president for his assistance in facilitating the deal.

He also noted, "President Putin was very generous and statesmanlike in granting me a pardon."
