During a press conference with Indian Prime Minister Modi, President Trump was questioned on what he wants Russia to concede in order to foster peace with Ukraine. The president responded with remarks on what he believes caused the war to begin with, noting the Russian government 'have said, from day one, long before president Putin that you can not have Ukraine be in NATO. They said that very strongly. I actually think that that was the thing that caused the start of the war.' He maintained that whether or not Ukraine finds a place in NATO, he is most concerned with ending the 'bloodshed.'
