5:30Now PlayingThe Sudanese army said that it had recaptured the Republican Palace in Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group on Friday, March 21, according to local reports.
An army spokesman called the recaptured palace “a symbol of the sovereignty and dignity of the Sudanese nation,” and said combat would continue “until victory is complete,” according to the Sudan Tribune.
This footage shows soldiers at the recaptured palace, which appears badly damaged.
The RSF had controlled the palace since April 2023, according to Sky News Arabia.
The civil war in Sudan, which began in 2023 after fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, has led to almost 15,000 deaths, with more than eight million people displaced. The United Nations has called it “the most devastating humanitarian and displacement crisis in the world.”
