1:15Now PlayingViral clips show Rochester police assisting Border Patrol agents with an emergency request on March 24 after pulling over a van with an estimated eight people. City officials, including Mayor Malik Evans, later scolded the officers for responding to the request by the feds, calling it a “violation” of city policy. Rochester’s sanctuary city resolution, General Order 501, was first adopted in 1986 and prohibits the department from enforcing federal immigration laws. The Rochester Police Locust Club union defended the officers’ actions, calling Evans’ statements “a complete overreaction” to what happened.
