The Tennessee Valley Authority marked a historic turning point on June 28 as towering smoke stacks at the Bull Run Fossil Plant near Knoxville were brought down in a dramatic implosion. Once a symbol of the region’s coal-powered energy era, the site is now being cleared to pave the way for next-generation technologies. The Anderson County Emergency Management Agency called the event a “major milestone” in the decommissioning of the plant, which served the area for decades.
