Netanyahu had maintained in the past that only the complete crushing of Hamas, including its leadership, would bring an end to the three-year war in Gaza. The Israeli leader appeared to confirm leaked details of President Trump’s proposed peace plan which would grant amnesty to Hamas fighters. Netanyahu’s comments came after it was reported that Trump would be willing to grant Hamas leaders safe passage out of Gaza, if the remaining 48 hostages being held in the territory are released within 48 hours of Israel publicly accepting the deal.
