Protests ran throughout the day at multiple locations across the San Francisco Bay Area, despite President Trump earlier on Thursday saying he would put plans for a federal deployment on hold, after reaching an agreement with the city’s Democratic mayor, Daniel Lurie.
Lurie said on X the city would continue to partner with federal agencies to combat drug crime, but that "militarized immigration enforcement" would not help.
Trump then wrote on Truth Social that a planned surge on Saturday would not go forward as he gave Lurie a “chance to see if he could turn it around.”
