FBI Director Kash Patel made a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room Wednesday to announce that Chinese officials have "shut off the pipeline" of illicit fentanyl — which killed nearly 330,000 Americans over the past five years.

"The People's Republic of China has fully designated and listed all 13 precursors utilized to make fentanyl," Patel said after returning from a trip to Beijing, adding that the Chinese government will now regulate seven other chemicals related to producing fentanyl.
