3:25Now PlayingBodycam footage released by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows the moment Deputy Robert Fitch was ambushed while responding to a suspicious person call in Ocala on May 13. After exiting his patrol vehicle on a residential street, Fitch was immediately attacked by a suspect with a knife. Fitch later said his bulletproof vest stopped the knife strikes and likely saved his life. The suspect fled into a wooded area before another deputy arrived. He later emerged from the woods and was taken into custody after deputies ordered him to the ground. While in the patrol car, the suspect threatened deputies, saying he should have killed Fitch. He was arrested on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and is being held without bond. Deputy Fitch suffered minor injuries in the attack.
