The video shows Nitzken stumbling toward Officer Nathan Stotts before he was shot, leading Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Paul Humphrey to announce plans to fire the officer, saying the encounter did not meet department training or standards. Officials said Nitzken's girlfriend had called 911, reporting he was bipolar and experiencing a mental break. Police leadership said Stotts failed to use less-lethal options and did not immediately render aid after the shooting, while both internal and criminal investigations remain underway.
