A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck near General Santos City in the southern Philippines, damaging buildings, disrupting power, and prompting tsunami warnings along parts of the coast. Residents were urged to move to higher ground. A small building collapsed in General Santos, though there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries. The quake's epicenter was located about 8 miles southwest of the city at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to Philippine seismologists.
